Assistant Professor – New Media
(Web Design and Development)
3-year term position

The Department of New Media at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a full-time, 3-year term position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2015. This position is subject to the approval of the Board of Governors.

An M.F.A. or equivalent terminal degree is required, combined with a demonstrated record of creative activity and/or scholarly research in the area of web design and development, as well as demonstrated excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will have excellent web design and development skills including:

  • experience in the creative exploration of emerging and integrated web technologies,
  • understanding of the cultural, political, economical and environmental implications of the web,
  • fluency in best practices and current W3C standards including responsive web design,
  • mastery of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript and JQuery.

Additional desirable attributes include demonstrated experience in mobile application development, and an ability to teach foundational courses in visual communication, graphic design, and/or history and theory of new media. Candidates who have experience in graduate supervision and an interest in teaching and serving in graduate studies are particularly encouraged to apply. As well as teaching courses in web design and development, teaching duties in other areas of the Department may be assigned depending upon the candidate’s secondary proficiencies.

The Department of New Media offers four degree programs: a B.F.A., a combined B.F.A/BMgt., a combined B.F.A/B.Ed. and an M.F.A. in New Media. Interested applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest describing all areas of expertise, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, and samples of recent research/creative work. Please arrange for three confidential letters of reference from qualified referees who can assess teaching and research/creative activity to be sent directly to the Dean by the closing date.
